Truterra, the sustainability business\u00a0and subsidiary\u00a0of Land O’Lakes, Inc, one of America’s largest farmer-owned cooperatives, recently announced the launch of\u00a0TruCarbon, a\u00a0transformational\u00a0new carbon\u00a0program\u00a0that will\u00a0help farmers generate and sell\u00a0carbon credits\u00a0to private sector buyers.<\/p>\n

TruCarbon\u00a0represents\u00a0the first and only farmer-owned carbon program in the US that is designed\u00a0to provide\u00a0both\u00a0the best\u00a0experience\u00a0for\u00a0farmers\u00a0and\u00a0a novel approach for carbon credit buyers to incentivise change at scale.<\/p>\n

TruCarbon\u00a0offers\u00a0buyers carbon credits that are created using leading soil and conservation science, and precision data and\u00a0verification\u00a0methods.\u00a0The program offers farmers a streamlined experience, making it easier for them to develop and sell carbon credits so that they can focus on crop production and caring for the land. <\/p>\n

Through the\u00a0Truterra\u00a0Insights Engine\u00a0data platform, the new TruCarbon program provides farmers\u00a0and their trusted\u00a0ag retailer advisors a\u00a0powerful soil health planning\u00a0suite of tools\u00a0to help\u00a0them\u00a0decide\u00a0what is best for their business while optimising their fields’ carbon credit potential.\u00a0TruCarbon also\u00a0maximises the value and return for farmers with premium carbon credit value.<\/p>\n

TruCarbon\u00a0is launching with\u00a0Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0as its first secured buyer to\u00a0purchase carbon in 2021, which will help meet the company’s ambitious commitment to be carbon negative by 2030. For this initial\u00a0launch, participating\u00a0farmers may receive\u00a0US$ 20 per ton of carbon with payments\u00a0this summer for this first\u00a0tranche\u00a0of credits.<\/p>\n
