Nimmu House: Glamping in Ladakh

Nestled at 10 000 feet of altitude surrounded by Himalayan panoramas, Nimmu House is a noble house that was built a century ago for the cousin of the King of Ladakh.

Converted in 2012 into a charming glamping retreat, Nimmu keeps its authenticity by respecting Ladakhi traditions and offering modern comfort.

heritage resort

This Glamping and Heritage eco-resort is situated 45 minutes from Leh, Ladakh. The property has maintained its original Buddhist temples and cattle, in which yaks and dzos rest quietly.

As you stay at Nimmu House you will enjoy the delightful meals prepared with fresh products sourced directly from the orchard, the garden, the cattle and local farms. Breakfasts are composed of fresh fruits from the orchard (juice and fruit salad), Ladakhi bread served with homemade jam and butter, and a choice of eggs or pancakes.

Food

Lunches and dinners have fixed 3-services menus and propose delicious Ladakhi (momos, chowmein, thukpa, etc…), Indian, Asian, Mediterranean and French specialties (vegetarian options possible). Meals are served in the charming traditional dining room or outside on the terrace with panoramic views.

Preserving Ladakhi heritage

The project to renovate it and turn it into a glamping and heritage eco-resort was born in 2012, when Ladakhi entrepreneur Lobzang Punchok Shamshu and French tourism professionals passionate about Himalayas, Alexandre Le Beuan and Jeremy Grasset visited the property – which immediately won their hearts.

The Nangso family, owner of Nimmu House, offered them to invest in the renovation of this architectural heritage as they were lacking financial resources to preserve it. Alex, Jeremy and Lobzang reacted with high enthusiasm to the proposal and gathered together a team of sustainable construction specialists, Tibetologist and art historians in order to ensure an authentic preservation of this Ladakhi jewel.

Nimmu House

The talented French interior designer Emeline Leveillé-Nizerolle decorated the house with taste and respect to Ladakhi heritage. Difficult access to manpower, the amplitude of the renovation works and the hard winters made it compulsory to spread the project over a few years.

The house has been renovated with traditional materials. All the materials are sourced locally and the decoration was carefully designed with respect to Ladakhi traditions.

It works with solar energy, in addition, the eco resort recycles water and grows its own delicious fruits and vegetables in the garden, which are cooked by the in-house  chef.

The Heritage Rooms
