Being around a close-knit family, one’s life may be enriched in special ways, just like Krishna Tamalia Vora’s. As a little girl in Gujarat, her life was in an embrace of Nature and her father’s agricultural fields. With immediate supplies of fresh and organically grown foods, she led a healthy life, aided by her mother’s care.
When she shifted to Mumbai, there was a change in her lifestyle too. Harmful chemicals in almost everything that she consumed took a toll on her hair and skin, leading her to fall back on her family for a solution: “I called up my mom asking for the hair oil my Nani used to make for her and my aunts and uncles, something which then my mother started making for me and my own siblings. This is how Mom’s Therapy was conceptualised, a herbal and natural skin and hair care brand.”
The Til Story
Krishna was clear about her dreams, “I wanted to provide the best of Herbal & Natural products to the people around me. In today’s fast life, we do not give much attention to our hair & skincare routine. At the end, we end up using chemical treatments to make it look good or to achieve glowing skin and we lose what we had before. I can understand this very deeply as I went through a similar experience in my life when I shifted to Mumbai in the year 2009.”
However, creating a fully natural product line was a challenge with regards to the sourcing of ingredients and even winning the customer’s trust. She wanted the best ingredients from the market for her products. “Being the daughter of a farmer, I had and still have good knowledge about farming as well as about the products we used and we grew. In the initial days of Mom’s Therapy, I remember, when I wanted to make my hair oil at home, I had gone to get Black Sesame Oil and nobody knew that there were 3 types of “Til” you get Black, White & Red,” shares Krishna.
The confidence challenge
Challenges will never be less but if you have enough knowledge about what you make and what you are giving to your customer, they can be overcome. However, Krishna says, “To get the confidence of our customers was the biggest challenge. There are a lot of brands in the market who claim to be 100% herbal & natural but when you read the ingredients you will realise the products are not pure as they claim.” At Mom’s Therapy, her honest work enabled her to create a truly good product line, including Hair Oil, Body Oil, a unique Eyebrow Oil, Coffee scrub, herbal make-up remover, shower powder, wooden comb and more.
“As all our products are based on our Dadi and Nani or mom’s Kitchen remedies for the hair & skin, we do not use any chemicals or preservatives in our products and they are cruelty free, handmade & vegan products,” she adds. The manufacturing unit is set up in Gujarat and it’s FDA approved.
Krishna wishes to establish her brand all over India, so that one can think of Mom’s Therapy whenever facing a hair or skin issue. She deems her products sealed with a mother’s love and wants it to be felt by everyone. For brand growth, she is introducing new moves fuelled by the sense of camaraderie with her potential customers. “Until now our brand was selling online but now we would like people to see and feel the products, try them before they make purchase and that’s why we are targeting Airports, Spas, and Luxury Hotels to keep and use our products. Today, our products are available at Hyatt Regency, and Ahmedabad,” she shares with us that the products would soon be available in Ahmedabad Airport too.
When Krishna started the brand, the only product available was her maternal grandmother’s signature hair oil, a legacy in her family shared with other people. Mom’s Therapy is a tribute to their legacy.
