Vasudha Bansal’s farms were taken under CPRI trials five years ago, and it paved the way for her to be a leading potato seed grower in the country.
Not just her land, but her farmers were included in the trials and they learnt a lot about potatoes. Vasudha says, “My mind was blown by the multiplicity of colours that potatoes can have. They were maroon, black, red, even blue, and of course we had the general yellow. We even grow sugar-free potatoes!”
The trials on her farms still continue and noteworthy is the quantity of potatoes produced from certain varieties – around 50 bags from just 50-60 tubers. Vasudha was quite impressed with the numbers, as well as the technical knowledge of the CPRI scientists and other personnel. She adds, “They were always available to clear my doubts or queries. I could reach out to them any time, and they would happily speak to me, in fact they continue to do so.”
