Shubhangi Deshmukh: Jivan is Satvik

When Shubhangi Deshmukh’s uncle passed away due to health issues (high sugar and blood pressure levels), she sat down to investigate the cause as he was very dear to her. To her surprise, she found that unhealthy food habits were one of the main reasons for his health issues. This served as the inspiration for her to make a resolution and begin practising healthy eating habits in her kitchen, as it is said, ‘Charity Begins at Home.’

This decision that started in her home kitchen soon transitioned into the brand Jivansatva. Jivansatva Organic Basket provides a diverse range of organic and sustainable products that are in high demand today. “Our mission is to become a trustworthy source for providing organic & sustainable products across the globe,” says Shubhangi.

A good life starts with Satvik food

Jivansatva’s main goal, as the name implies, is to make organic (Satvik) food available to everyone who wishes to live a healthy life, as the company believes that good food will inevitably lead to a good life. Shubhangi also strives to be more responsible by aiding farmers and thereby improving their lives, by teaching them about sustainable farming practices for soil and the environment.

Jivansatva has a basket of 250+ NPOP-certified products like Pulses, Spices, Cereal, Oil & A2 Ghee, Fresh Flour, Sweeteners, Herbal, Seeds, and more.

Shubhangi informs, “These items are acquired directly from organic certified farmers who conduct all farm activities in accordance with organic requirements. We have around 1200 farmers in India working on our products, allowing us to provide the highest quality food to our customers while also assisting farmers in receiving a fair price for their produce.”

Jivansatva is not currently exporting goods to any country; however, she is considering it in the future once they feel that they are able to fill the major vacuum in an already congested market. “We understand through indirect feedback from our customers that they have gifted our products to their relatives in countries like the USA, Canada and Dubai,” she adds.

Certified quality

In the early days, the brand had to encounter and overcome some significant hurdles, such as locating the proper product and matching the required parameters, for which it is obtaining transfer certificates from suppliers (which are issued by APEDA-approved agencies who track the entire movement from production to sale).

“We often conduct surprise visits to partner farms to monitor their activities. We also get lab testing for some of the products like Ghee, Honey and Kesar as often adulterated variants of these products are available in the market,” explains Shubhangi. Moreover, to maintain the quality of the product for a longer period of time Jivansatva uses vacuum packaging.

The future roadmap means more products to the basket so that end customers have more options at lower prices, in a reasonable way so that farmers also obtain a higher price for their crops while protecting soil fertility is the road ahead for the brand.
