The values that drive Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) are Integrative, Inclusive, Collaborative, Voluntary, Passionate, Democratic, and Open. IMI operates through a network of state and regional chapters that share its vision and collaborates with other organisations and institutions, some of which have been members since the organisation’s inception. Through sustained and informed dialogue among all stakeholders, IMI brings mountain concerns to the forefront of regional, national, and global agendas.
Mountains in the forefront
Amba Jamir, Vice President of IMI, shares some valuable insights. “The mountains have not been the focus and subject of India’s development pathways for a very long time, and we daresay that it is still not considered in many of the discussions that happen in institutions like the erstwhile Planning Commission or the current Niti Aayog, which has led to the marginalisation of the socio-ecology of the mountains from the development outcomes of the nation at large,” he states.
