The spectacle of flying fairy lights!

The wetlands, fields, forests, chapparals are their habitat, where they bring light to the vicinity, enveloped in the blackness of night. Fireflies, a common occurrence just a couple decades ago, are hardly seen nowadays. Anecdotal evidence suggests that firefly populations may be on the decline. Fireflies live in fields, meadows, forests, and other natural habitats, and these areas are becoming fewer due to urban development. Inevitable urbanisation has made it impossible for these little creatures to save their place in this fast-changing world, but some people have come together to make their existence possible, while also making these places accessible to people who truly value their beauty.

PLATEAUS AND PEAKS

Prabalmachi Fireflies Camp can be experienced in the Indian state of Maharashtra, specifically in its ethereal Western Ghats. Prabalmachi is renowned for its landscapes and rich history surrounding the Prabalgad Fort located here. The location is close to a plateau for camping in the night, the Kalavantinpinnacle for high-risk treks, and helpful villagers, which makes it an excellent spot for trekkingadventures too. Various camping groups organise mindful, small groups that trek and camp in Prabalmachi, popularising the Prabalmachi Fireflies Camp.Accessibility is not a challenge,as a couple metro and electric rickshaw rides can lead the person right to the base village fortheir journey.fireflies

Fireflies are great for the Planet – their bioluminescence is nearly 100 per cent efficient, meaning little energy is wasted to produce their light. By contrast, an incandescent light bulb is only 10per cent efficient with 90 per cent of the energy lost as heat.

As the day closes, the fireflies grow comfortable in the darkness and they all glow. The best time to experience this glimmering scene is during summer, especially late May to mid-June; that is whenthe weather is apt for the matingof fireflies.
