An Organic bedtime story

Avocado Green Mattresses are handmade in California but they use organic certified Dunlop latex, wool and cotton all of which comes from co-owned farmer societies in India

Avocado Green Mattresses are designed in Hoboken and handmade in California with only the finest naturally non-toxic and 100% certified organic materials from its own farmer collectives in India. The company’s mission is to be the most respected source for organic mattresses and pillows at affordable prices – while maintaining environmentally conscious, ethical, and sustainable business practices – to help safeguard health and protect the planet.

Avocado Green Mattresses are B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified and the 2020 Pinnacle Award Winner from 1% for the Planet. Avocado is the world’s first mattress brand to be Climate Neutral Certified and achieve net-zero carbon emissions. In 2020, Avocado went carbon negative, offsetting more carbon than it generates – the new bar for all sustainable brands.

What is an Organic Mattress?

When a brand claims to have an organic mattress, it means all of the materials used that can be organic, are actually organic. An organic mattress uses only materials – typically organic latex, cotton, and wool – that have been certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS).

These standards for ecology and social responsibility are endorsed by the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) regardless of their country of origin. These standards mean that: All of the materials are certified to be as organic as possible; all of the factories that make the natural material components and finished products follow organic practices and are also organic certified; and the finished product is organic certified. It must also maintain ethical business practices. Three levels of certification are required.

Certified Organic

Mattresses can be filled with toxins. Not the ones made by Avocado Green. The company’s organic latex, wool and cotton have received the GOLS, GOTS and STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certifications to ensure no harmful substances are present. And the finished Avocado Green Mattress is MADE SAFE certified – which precludes all known and even suspected toxins, including fire retardants. Avocado is one of only three mattress brands in the world to achieve the MADE SAFE certification.

Latex hybrid mattresses

According to the leading independent consumer publication’s rating, Avocado Green Mattress is the best-rated hybrid mattress in America – two years in a row. U.S. News & World Report rates Avocado as the No. 1 hybrid mattress for 2020. Organic latex hybrid mattresses offer the best of both worlds – uniting the luxury of natural comfort layers with the superior support that only innersprings deliver. All edges are reinforced. Your body floats, never sinks. Motion transfer is reduced.

Avocado’s organic latex hybrid mattresses offer better back support, an ergonomic system that keeps your spine aligned and relieving aching pressure points. They allow for improved airflow, ensuring a cooler night’s sleep. They respond and flex easily. And of course, the latex hybrid mattresses deliver marathon-like durability, staying strong over the long haul for all body types and sleeping positions.

The company also makes organic certified beds which are handmade out of 100% reclaimed wood, needle-tufted instead of glued together, GREENGUARD Gold certified for super low emissions, and MADE SAFE Non-Toxic Certified (which means no flame retardants, just wool) and Climate Neutral Certified, for net-zero emissions all the way from the farm to your bedroom.

1,414 coils made of recycled steel

In a hybrid mattress, coil counts matter! Most mattresses have 700 or fewer coils in a king size bed. Each Avocado mattress has 1,414 coils. Better still, the tempered steel coils are made in the USA by Leggett & Platt using 100% recycled steel. Plus, they use three different wire gauges and two different coil turn setups to tune each coil’s firmness and spring action based on its position in the bed.

Organic latex, wool and cotton for eco-luxury

Avocado hybrid mattresses use GOLS organic certified Dunlop latex, 100% GOTS organic certified wool and 100% GOTS organic certified cotton all sourced from its own co-owned farmer collectives in India operating under the USDA’s National Organic Program for the most sustainable and responsible luxurious sleep possible.

Organic latex is simply Mother Nature’s gift to us – no other natural material comes close in terms of comfort, breathability, resiliency, elasticity, motion isolation, durability, support, and even biodegradability. Avocado Green’s GOLS organic certified Dunlop latex comes from the milky white sap of rubber trees, grown without persistent herbicides and pesticides, and processed in an organic certified facility that is also jointly owned by the company.

Organic wool offers unparalleled temperature regulation and moisture wicking. It is also a natural flame retardant, meeting all US flame retardancy laws without the use of toxic chemical or synthetic fire barriers. It has even received STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX certification (19.HIN.68466, Hohenstein HTTI), ensuring it contains no harmful substances. Organic cotton delivers a more luxurious finish, breathes easily, and wicks away moisture better than any synthetic.

New launch

The company has recently launched its Organic Yoga Meditation Pillow as well. It comes with a net-negative carbon footprint, and all-natural buckwheat hulls. The buckwheat is sourced from North Dakota. The hulls are small and sturdy and won’t break down or crack, even after years of repeated use.
