Bira 91, the world’s fastest growing premium beer brand, has released Yuzu Gose Sour, its first Gose style beer, in conjunction with Far Yeast Brewing Company, one of Japan’s most inventive brewing firms. The beer was officially launched in the Bira 91 Limited Release Taproom in Koramangala, Bangalore, on June 2, 2022.
Bira 91 is an Indian craft beer brand that was created in 2015 by B9 Beverages, founded by Ankur Jain, an entrepreneur who moved from India to the United States in 1998.
And now with the latest collaboration with Japan’s Far Yeast Brewing Company, the company has created its first gose-style beer, Yuzu Gose Sour. A Gose-style beer is traditionally a wheat beer with little hop bitterness and a delightful crispness.
The ‘Yuzu Gose Sour’ is made with Himalayan Pink Salt from India and Yuzu peel, a classic Japanese citrus fruit grown in Kochi Prefecture and used to make Kagua, a popular Japanese ale. The components combine to create the ideal sour beer, a type that is popular in both countries.
Deepak Sinha, VP, Marketing, Bira 91, commented on the collaboration, saying, “We are extremely excited to partner with Far Yeast Brewing Company, and launch the Yuzu Gose Sour, a beer that is a unique blend of Indian and Japanese flavours. As a brand, we have a very strong association with Japan given our deep-rooted relationship with Kirin Holdings. Through this collaboration, we also wish to celebrate the 70th year of diplomatic friendship between the two countries.”
Combining Indo-Japan flavours
Yuzu Gose Sour is a beer that combines Indian and Japanese flavours in a unique way. Bira 91 and Far Yeast Brewery’s love for experimenting with new beer styles, as well as their brewer’s relentless desire to continue developing and offering various flavours to consumers, are brought together in this cooperation.
Sharing his thoughts on the collaboration, Shiro Yamada, CEO, Far Yeast Brewery, said, “Beer/Craft Beer culture is similar in Indian and Japan in a sense that we are both uniquely innovating the craft beer culture from the USA. I wish that this cross collaboration will be the first step to elevate the unique craft beer culture in the new world.”
