Sresta (24 Mantra) has initiated the ‘Amrit Mitti’ mission, which intends to double the carbon content of soil in the coming years. This was initiated as part of their objective to create sustainable livelihoods for farmers, sustainable lifestyles for customers, and to contribute to a sustainable ecology, which they have been doing for the past 18 years, beginning in 2004.
As a part of ‘Amrit Mitti’ they have begun evaluating soil samples from approximately 3500 of our 35000 farms scattered across twelve states. The initial reports are quite positive. Normal Indian soils contain about 0.2% soil carbon. According to initial findings from Rajasthan and MP, the soil carbon level in the fields ranges from 0.5% to 1%, with an average of 0.8%. It’s no surprise that the production and quality of the produce are high. This should result in improved nutritional benefits.
Over the next five years, the team of Sresta plan to test and monitor this.
The Amrit Mitti initiative should result in increased productivity, higher produce quality, improved nutrition, and carbon sequestration. This would also result in more money for the farmers due to higher yields and carbon credits, higher quality nutritious food for customers, an enriching and rewarding experience for the team members, as well as an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
