Mumbai, India – Re Sustainability and Recycling Private Limited (ReSRL), a subsidiary of Re Sustainability Limited (ReSL), and Aarti Circularity Limited (ACL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aarti Industries Limited (AIL), have announced a groundbreaking partnership to revolutionise plastic recycling in India. The joint venture (JVCo) will establish state-of-the-art Plastic Materials Recycling Facilities (PMRFs) nationwide, with an initial investment of ₹100 crore.
A milestone in circular economy
The first PMRF will be set up in Hyderabad and is expected to become operational within 15 to 18 months. These facilities will focus on processing plastic waste from diverse sources, ensuring effective resource recovery and recycling. The JVCo aims to produce Advanced Circular Materials (ACM), which will serve as raw materials, fuels, or recycled polymer feedstock, supporting the shift towards a sustainable circular economy.
The initiative targets a minimum resource recovery capacity of 500 tonnes per day by 2030. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices, the partnership seeks to address critical waste management challenges while fostering economic and environmental benefits.
Masood Mallick, Managing Director & CEO of Re Sustainability, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting its potential to set new industry benchmarks. “This partnership combines Re Sustainability’s expertise in waste management and resource recovery with Aarti Industries’ extensive experience in speciality chemicals. Our goal is to build an advanced recycling infrastructure that minimises environmental impact and promotes circularity,” he stated.
Mirik Gogri, Director of Aarti Circularity Limited, underscored the significance of this partnership in advancing sustainability. “This collaboration is a major step towards reducing plastic waste and dependence on virgin resources. By integrating innovation with sustainability, we aim to transform plastic recycling in India and contribute to a more sustainable future,” he noted.
To extract 100 tonnes of ACM, approximately 200 tonnes of municipal waste must be processed. Given Re Sustainability’s track record of collecting 9 million tonnes of waste annually and recycling 9 lakh tonnes of plastic across its plants, the company is well-positioned to scale this initiative effectively.
With an expected turnover of ₹5000 crore in the next five years, the JVCo is set to play a pivotal role in meeting the rising demand for recycled polymers. The venture will also engage with leading technology partners to ensure efficiency and innovation in plastic recycling processes.
