In a world that is unfortunately drowning in plastic and losing its green cover at an unprecedented rate, envoPAP is a brand that makes innovative, sustainable paper that prioritises the environment.
envoPAP uses renewable sources like agro-fibres as raw material instead of wood and single-use plastic.
EnvoPAP was founded in 2015 by award-winning entrepreneur Kaushal Shah as a sustainable paper firm with the launch of its first commercial product, later adding packaging materials to its portfolio thanks to rigorous R&D.
Products
envoPAP has generated a variety of products from a single waste material in order to reduce plastic waste and limit the rate of deforestation. The plug-and-play materials from envoPAP are flexible and adaptable to customer needs.
envoPAP now has three goods in its portfolio. First is paper, copy paper, and printing paper. Next is the packaging products range that includes Kraft Board, which can be used to make corrugated boxes as a test liner, fluting medium paper, and paper bags. Kraft Bold, a USFDA and BfR-certified (BFR XXXVI regulation) paper that is ideal for book covers and shopping bags.
Kraft E-Com is envoPAP’s most recent offering. It is created from agricultural waste and is biodegradable and recyclable. This sturdy packaging protects items throughout transit while also reducing packaging waste due to the additional peel and seal for returns.
Last but not the least on envoPAP’s list is a range of bespoke products. There are 5 products in this category that are completely customisable to fulfil a variety of needs. These are envoBOX, envoBAGS, envoNOTE (notebooks), envoMAILERS, and envoLOPE.
Sustainability at its core
While offering industry-leading solutions, envoPAP’s business model helps tackle multiple interconnected environmental concerns. The raw materials are an organic byproduct of the agricultural process that was formerly burned by farmers as an economical means to clear their land for the next harvest.
Eight packs of A4 copy paper from envoPAP can help save one tree. The brand has spared about 1 million trees from being cut down for paper in the last five years alone and the company aims to reach 10 million by 2030. 2083 boxes can contribute to the preservation of one hectare of forest. When compared to traditional paper, it saves 38% on carbon footprint.
Kaushal and his team has expanded the reach of envoPAP to over 63 countries, and his products are currently employed by blue-chip firms such as L’Oréal and Südzucker AG, Europe’s largest sugar producer.
For instance, their flagship product is currently being used for office printing needs by L’Oreal’s London headquarters, replacing tree-paper and wood-based fibres, giving sustainability a chance.
Founder and future plans
The brand obtained B Corporation status in 2019, which is one of the most rigorous standards internationally to demonstrate social and environmental performance. envoPAP is one of just 5000 companies in the world to have achieved this.
As envoPAP developed, it received financial backing from angel investors, venture funds, and the Founders Factory acce. Kaushal received £390,000 through the Crowdcube crowd-funding platform in 2020. This occurred during the peak of the pandemic, demonstrating the business’s potency.
Moreover, founder Kaushal was also named to Forbes magazine’s renowned ’30 Under 30′ list for Europe in 2021.
Speaking on the future of envoPAP Kaushal says, “We envisage a world where no packaging harms the environment and in order to ensure that, from materials, we have also moved into coatings. We have developed water-based sustainable coatings (IP registered) that are waterproof, oil and grease resistant. At the moment, companies use plastic coatings to make paper materials liquid proof. However, even though it is less plastic, ‘End of Life’ of plastic coated paper is as bad as a regular single-use plastic due to its non-degradable properties.”
He continues and concludes, “We are also creating a Second Life Certification, to validate other companies’ products as matching our high standards of sustainability. By helping other companies change their production methods, we can multiply our impact and reshape the industry.”
