Sashee Chandran: A Tea Drop

Did you ever imagine that an epidemic usage of plastic could end up with its particles in your body? Yet, it has happened. Scientists have discovered microplastics and nanoplastics in the human body. The sources are varied- chopping boards, vegetables, seafood, even tea bags. It has become a necessity for people to opt for wood and bamboo objects, organic and homegrown food, sustainable clothes et al to escape the pollutants that have reached every place on earth. What about tea, the most consumed beverage in the world? Tea Drop has come up with an innovative plan.

Bagless goodness

“Not instant tea, not tea bags – it’s a brand-new way to enjoy tea faster (we’ve even patented it),” claims Sashee Chandran, the founder of Tea Drop. She says, “Tea has always been a huge part of my life, my culture, and my family. For years, I wished I had the time (and the patience) to brew the traditional loose-leaf tea I used to make with my parents.” With the ancestry of China and Sri Lanka, tea has of course been a huge part of the founder’s life, “so the ritual of brewing and drinking everything from black Assam to chrysanthemum tea is in my blood.” Stale, bland tea bags full of microplastics” just weren’t it for Sashee, and she took matters in her own hands to deliver the essential tea experience of loose leaves by forming the tea drop.

This method is, the founder maintains, “even easier to brew than a tea bag, but doesn’t compromise the quality of a loose-leaf tea.” These organic, single-serve loose tea leaves are condensed into “small but mighty drops that are ready to drink in seconds.” The most exciting part about the venture is the unique range of flavours that is offered. From the staple Black Assam and Earl Grey to not so everyday ube, strawberry, cranberry, vanilla and many more! As if the vibrant colours of different tea were not enough, Sashee also made sure to add fun shapes into the mix- so peppermint comes as a heart, rose earl grey as a flower, and chai spice as star.

Café from home!

“Easy enough to make at my desk at work, and delicious enough to make my parents proud,” claims Sashee about the tea drop. But if you want café like atmosphere at home, do check out the latte kits and boba teas. The readymade boba pearls come in different flavours too. If you want to get them all, an economic option would be to create your own sampler tea box to see which you like best. If you are intimidated to try something new, look into the recipes on the Tea Drop website to have guidance from the creators of the teas themselves!

Other than teas, Tea Drop has beautiful teaware to accompany the perfect cuppa- or glass- that could enhance the tea drinking experience. Moreover, the wellness drops at Tea Drop is a great accompaniment to their tea or any other beverage to get a dose of superfoods the delicious way. Next time you think of hopping into a big café for your cuppa, stop to check out the organic demerara sugar infused Drops and think of Sashee- “Tea Drops have become part of my new ritual – and I hope they do the same for you, too.”
