Verth: Think inside the box!

Consuming organic in all ways possible has become a way of life for many. Organic/Sustainable Subscription Boxes, a contemporary and easy choice for health-freaks and eco-conscious people are making their presence felt in the Indian as well as international markets. These boxes may comprise anything, from organically grown snacks to organic and sustainable skincare. That’s where the idea of Verth originated – inside a Box!

The story of the start

Shreya Kothari and Renata Millett first met at Mumbai University in 2014, to pursue a master’s degree in Public Relations. The two-year program helped them grow closer as friends because they were the only 2 non-Marathi speaking girls in their class.

Shreya recalls, “We worked on our thesis together, that’s when we worked late nights for the first time. Later we went on to work at the same agency briefly.” Renata moved back to Jaipur, her hometown, to pursue work there and Shreya continued in Mumbai. They stayed in touch through Instagram, commenting on each other’s stories and posts.

It was once when Renata posted something about plastic-free living that Shreya reached out to say this is something she was passionate about too. Renata shares, “We got on a call that went on for hours catching up on each other’s lives and brainstorming on what could be done in this industry. We first thought of building a content platform, but then while researching we discovered challenges that needed to be addressed, like the positioning of sustainable products as expensive and elite. We wanted to make it just the opposite, affordable and easy to access.”

This is when the two got on more calls and then one day Shreya decided to take a train to Jaipur to build this further.
