Rishika Reddy, Prianka Jhaveri and Rhea Kothari realised the toll our consumer habits were taking on the environment. And started asking questions like: Why does a small pack of batteries ordered online get delivered in a 10x5x3 inch package box? What happens to that box? Is it going to become a permanent, hazardous fixture in the environment? These questions sparked the inspiration for them to change these norms and after countless hours of ideation, they came up with the solution and The Mend was born.
The Mend is a sustainable packaging company based in India that works with waste management partners, packaging manufacturers, and vendors to produce authentic products and a seamless service. “We want to encourage sustainability among consumers and businesses by easily providing sustainable packaging alternatives.” says co-founder Rhea.
Planet friendly packaging
The company’s products are manufactured from raw materials that are recyclable and biodegradable. It deals with a variety of materials and textures, including bioplastics generated from corn starch, recycled paperboard, rigid board, and corrugated board, organic cloth, flex derived from billboard trash, and agricultural waste products such as hemp and seeds.
Rishika adds, “We use toxin free inks that do not contaminate groundwater on disposal as well as starch-based adhesives and biodegradable aqueous coatings and foils to eliminate the use of plastic all together.”
