Verdoo: Reforestation Reimagined

Climate Change cannot be ignored anymore. It is happening and the evidence is quite clear with the way the temperatures are rising and the weather conditions are changing worldwide, affecting people in more ways than one. Also, the effects of climate change are long-term and take a lot of effort to get back under control.

This is why it is important that one takes action and plays their part in fighting climate change as much as they can. In today’s time, more and more tech companies are coming together to fight climate change. They are implementing various strategies to control their own carbon footprint and also practising sustainable methods.

These companies are also working hard to provide customers with some tools to fight climate change and reduce their carbon footprint. Verdoo is one such company with a powerful tool.

This Danish start-up aims to help users diminish their carbon footprint while doing something as mundane as online shopping. They have developed a browser extension for this purpose, which means the users only have to go to their website and download the extension. This extension partners with 10,000 retailers around the globe and whenever the user makes a purchase from a Verdoo-affiliated retailer, a part of the cost goes to a reforestation project. That means every time a person buys something online they are helping in planting more trees and indirectly making up for the environmental damage online shopping may lead to.

earth people green environmentReforestation has its own benefits and one of them is fighting climate change. They can help in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which leads to controlling global warming. On another hand, reforestation also stops the migration of a species from one place to another and can also stop soil erosion. The water cycle also improves a lot with the help of reforestation, as more trees increase the amount of water which is stored in the soil.

The CEO and founder of Verdoo, Mircea Giurca came up with the idea when the beginning of the pandemic back in 2020 online shopping had increased. Giurca saw how much stuff his neighbours had ordered online which produced so much waste such as plastic wrappers and cardboard coverings. That is when he decided he wanted to make online shopping a CO2-neutral experience. The extension is easy to use. According to the website, it only takes 30 seconds to join Verdoo. The customer just has to shop and the software checks the companies and applies the promo code accordingly at checkout. This way the buyers don’t even have to do much.
