Mamta Pal: Panya for the Planet

The Textile industry is changing rapidly and growing towards Sustainability. Eco friendly clothing is created from resources that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Consideration is given to the product’s total life span as well as its impact on the Planet, in other words, the carbon footprint.

In the beginning of 2019, a group of young, like-minded fashion enthusiasts came together with a common purpose in their minds. To not only produce top-notch clothes but to produce them in conscientious way. Mamta Pal decided to brighten the prospects of Organic clothing in India and so launched the clothing brand, Panya Organic. ‘Panya’, the name is derived from a Sanskrit word which means ‘Glorious Women’.

Panya is one of the leading women’s apparel manufacturing and distributing brand which specialises in organic based textiles in India. Panya’s flair to bring the trend and comfort together has managed to garner a splendid customer base in less than a year, making it one of the most sought-after bio-clothing brands in India and also worldwide.

Elucidating on her vision behind Panya, Mamta says, “The Textile Industry has now become the second most polluted industry. My vision is to preserve our environment for the future generation. Lots of fabric varieties exist in India but they are not biodegradable and they are increasing landfills, which is a huge concern to our environment. I want to work on sustainable fashion because it is the need of the hour. India is the biggest exporter of organic fabric but not the finished product. This is what we want to achieve.”

Mamta adds, “Panya places special emphasis on maintaining social-economic as well as environmental balance. The main aim here is to produce affordable organic clothing without compromising on trends and to create as less waste as possible in doing so.”

Style with sustainability

Panya continually researches on latest fashion trends and also on how their impact on the environment can be made favourable. With this knowledge, it brings together products that would be loved by the female fraternity for style as well as sustainability.

Panya organic wear is as socio-friendly as it is eco-friendly. It has adopted proper workplace ethics in the clothing factory, which ensures its employees get a fair remuneration.

Mamta shares, “The brand’s vision is to produce organic clothing with strict safety standards of manufacturing which benefits consumers as well as improves emotional and mental health of Indian farmers. Besides, by adopting organic clothing, consumers become responsible citizens, fully aware about their responsibility towards Nature.”organic fashion

Speaking about the challenges faced in the initial years, Mamta says, “ One of the biggest challenges that we faced is that people were not aware of organic fabrics – it was difficult for us to educate them, to teach them about importance of organic fabric. It is also difficult for us to match our prices with the non-organic competition.”

Panya is quickly becoming one of the leading organic clothing brands online with a range of products that include hemp clothing, organic cotton fabrics, natural fibre clothing, etc. Panya is certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards) and this compliance establishes it as a global sustainable clothing manufacturer.

Started as an Indian organic clothing brand, Panya now has spread its wings by catering to its clientele globally. Recently, the brand has found Europe as a good marketplace, making it to the European organic clothing brands list.

The brand has also started exporting to the US.organic fashion

Mamta outlines future plans for the brand, “ We are planning to start a kids brand too because they are our future.”

Panya clothing is available on every major online marketplace, making it easily available everywhere. PaFurthermore, Panya is also open to working with new distributors, suppliers or anyone interested in ethical fashion locally and globally.
