Deep in the hills of the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, called the Devbhumi (God’s land), British Captain ES Jackson built his own house in the British colonial style. Later, toward the end of the century, the ‘Estate’ was bought by Edward Thomas Chowdhary, the then District Commissioner of Kumaon.

However, the estate was developed into a resort by Geeta Reeb, the commissioner’s granddaughter and her German husband. They built the cottages called kutiras in British colonial style with Kumaoni authenticity. The resort again came to be owned by Nature photographers and Wildlife enthusiasts Dr. Arvind Lal and Dr. Vandana Lal.

AyurVAID Kalmatia located in Uttarakhand, is one of the North India’s most sheer and finest ayurvedic healing destinations that provides a classical and comprehensive Ayurveda health holiday. The healing resort provides health enhancement through Panchakarma and other therapeutic processes and disease reversal programs at its world class Kriya Sala, a therapy centre. Currently, the AyurVAID Kalmatia is managed by AyurVAID Hospitals, a division of the Kerala First Health Services.
