Wild Mahseer: A 146-year old Biodiverse haven

Situated at the gateway to the Northeast, Wild Mahseer is a British era heritage luxury homestay in Balipara town in Sonitpur district of Assam, India. It is spread over 22 acres of land and is surrounded by gorgeous tea gardens. It is a part of the Eastern Himalayan Botanic Ark.

Wild Mahseer is an award-winning heritage homestay with a classy 146 year old colonial Burra Bungalow. It is a bio-diverse Ark which has 1,00,000+ plants, 90+ species of birds, 72+ species of butterflies.

Wild Mahseer is a portal to the forests of Pakke, Nameri, Orang and to the very popular Kaziranga. The premise comprises the Burra Bungalow which has 3 rooms, 5 cosy tea-bungalows, the First Flush dining pavilion and the Two & A Bud conference facility. The bungalows are named after teas: Ambrosia, Silver Tips, Golden Tips and Camellia.

The property is a home to numerous herbs and medical plants whereas it has been embraced by botanical forests on either side of the pathway and a bamboo forest.

A glimpse of colonial luxury

The Burra Bungalow that offers an eye-catching serene view is surrounded by lush tea gardens and a lawn. The interiors are influenced by classic European style with a little touch of Assamese architectural setup that adds a luxurious aesthetic glimpse of colonial history.

 

The Burra Bungalow was the official residence for visiting agents which has now been transformed into a luxurious dwelling place for visitors. Not only this but the Burra Bungalow is a certified “Heritage building” by the Directorate of Archaeology.

It has a fireplace in the living room, a library and a piano setup for its guests.

Silver Tips and Golden Tips: The Silver tips and the Golden tips which consists of 3 bedrooms namely the Geranium, Muscatel and the Roselle, basically refers to the enclosed small leaves of the tea plants. Each of the rooms has its own uniqueness and charm with its brilliantly built decors that will leave you astonished.

The Cottage: The cottage which provides one suite is couple friendly and was built in the 1930’s as an Annexe to the Burra Bungalow with the intentions of accommodating special guests of the visiting agents.

The Ambrosia: The Ambrosia is one of the most elegant and gorgeous ones. It has a lit up hallway, antique showpieces and wall paintings. Ambrosia basically means a white tea that grows in the Southeast coast of China, it is a rare kind of white tea which is harvested only during the springtime, every year.

The Camellia: The Camellia consists of different well-equipped furniture and comfy rooms. Camellia sinensis basically refers to a species of the evergreen shrubs or small trees in the flowering plant in Theaceae.

First Flush and The Elephant Apple

The First Flush offers traditional British cuisines and along with that they also offer cooking lessons on Anglo-Indian, Assamese and North-Indian dishes in their kitchen. They insist the visitors pick the vegetables and herbs from their garden.

The dining hall used to be a garage for tractors which has now been converted into a 28-seater world class dining space panelled with French doors fixed with glasses to let in sunlight.

Elephant Apple: The Elephant Apple-Ou Tenga is an ethnic kitchen where you can experience the Eastern Himalayan cuisines from the neighbouring communities such as Nepali, Boro, Garo, Assamese, Tibetan, Mising, Adivasi and Nyishi.

Wild Mahseer offers a remote office, bird watching, and demonstrates an exclusive process of tea-tasting, cycling, indoor and outdoor sports and conversation with nature.

The homestay offers a view of the Gangetic River Dolphin, Green village, National Parks, Art and Culture, a voyage to Guinesia Hill and the Lokhra Market.

It has a polo club known as “The Misa Polo Club”, a community store, “Elephant Country” and community homestays.
