Thendup and Pema Tashi own this unique homestay that sits at an altitude of 1500 metres in SIkkim and can reached by a drive through groves of bamboo.
Above the clouds and away from the crowds, nestled in a sublime idyllic rural setting with a backdrop of the Kangchenjunga group of peaks and the skyline of the Singelila Range is Yangsum Heritage Farm. Kangchenjunga, also spelled Kanchenjunga and Khangchendzonga, is the third highest mountain in the world. The farmstay is located in a town called Rinchenpong, situated in the north-eastern state of Sikkim. The farmhouse, which was originally constructed in 1833 and renovated in 1966, is now operated by Thendup Tashi and his wife, Pema Tashi, who also oversee the 44-acre mountain farm.
“The main objective of starting our homestay was basically to be self employed and sustain oneself and also to generate local employment.”, recalls Thendup Tashi about the inspiration that made them start the venture.
With five double bedrooms that are spacious and tastefully furnished and divided into two categories: Standard and Heritage, the lodging is basic, with warm wood panelling built into quaint cottages in the Tibetan style.
