Ayodhya on the way to become solar city

Ayodhya has recently been all over the news outlets and social media for a remarkable reason. The inauguration of the widely famous Ram Mandir on 22nd January, 2024, created numerous headlines. Along with welcoming the respected Chandravanshi home, Ayodhya is also taking a step towards the sun- more specifically, solar power. According to a report released by FIMER, Ayodhya is set to become the first solar city of Uttar Pradesh.

The discussion to take this step has been going since last year; a seminar that was organised at Circuit House on making Ayodhya a solar city played a prominent role. In the presence of the General Secretary, Director of Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi and other special guests, the solar project was discussed in detail. The authorities aspire to make Ayodhya a completely self-reliant city with the concept of ‘Saksham Ayodhya’, of which plan renewable energy is a part of.

Project partners

FIMER, a global manufacturer of inverters for solar systems, has contributed to this vision by supplying its cutting-edge PVS980-58  5 MVA inverters to Jakson Green for the monumental “40MW Ayodhya Solar PV Project”, developed by NTPC Green Energy Ltd. According to a press release by the company, Jakson Green provided a total of 104,580 solar panels for the project. The 40MW solar power plant is scheduled to be fully operational in 2024. Currently, 15MW of the project is already commissioned, spanning across two sites in Rampur Halwara and Sarairasi.

Kannan Krishnan, Joint Managing Director at Jakson Green Private Ltd. commented on the project: “Lighting up Ayodhya with solar energy is not just about powering a city, it’s about illuminating a path towards a more sustainable future for India. Partnering with FIMER on this historic project reaffirms our commitment to renewable energy and smart city development. Their cutting-edge inverters ensure not only clean energy generation but also optimal efficiency and return on investment. As Ayodhya takes its first steps towards becoming a solar city, Jakson Green and FIMER stand proud to be a part of this transformational journey.”

Ayodhya’s shift to solar power is expected to be treated as the latest model for such projects in other cities as well. The technology used, the lessons learned on the way to complete the project, and the favourable outcome from it could be an inspiration for other major Indian cities.
