SeaH4: Sustainable Fuel From Algae

Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, are the primary sources of energy that power our societies. However, burning these fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which contributes to climate change. The combustion of fossil fuels is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, accounting for over 70% of all emissions.

The emissions from burning fossil fuels trap heat in the atmosphere, leading to global warming and climate change. The effects of climate change include rising sea levels, more frequent and severe natural disasters, changes in precipitation patterns, and alterations in ecosystems and wildlife populations. These effects are already being observed around the world, and they are expected to worsen if we continue to burn fossil fuels at the current rate.

The production of fossil fuels can lead to environmental degradation, displacement of local communities, and human rights violations. The volatility of fossil fuel prices can also lead to economic instability and uncertainty.

To address the effects of fossil fuels on climate change, there is a growing need to shift to renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, and hydropower. The transition to renewable energy would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve public health by reducing air pollution, and create new job opportunities in the clean energy sector. The use of electric vehicles, increased energy efficiency, and the development of carbon capture and storage technologies can also help to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

algaSeaH4 is a South African cleantech startup that offers solutions to help get a profitable production of sustainable biodiesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from algae. There are base technologies used by this start-up which include algae farming, biogas production, gas processing and gas-to-liquid conversion. SeaH4 makes sure to use such systems which minimize operational expenditure and increase yield. The combustion engines’ operation is CO2-neutral which is facilitated by the final fuel product and they are a far cry from fossil fuels.

The company itself was responsible for developing an alternative to fossil fuels which also emits zero CO2. No transport infrastructure is required for the same and SeaH4 fuels also do not require changes to engines or the distribution network. So there is no risk of technology or any transportation hazard. This project doesn’t require the oil and gas sector to get new infrastructure to turn net zero. Investors are very much interested even though the technology isn’t new and SeaH4 team are glad to share their products. SeaH4 only has one aim and that is to provide clean water and sanitation throughout Africa. To achieve this goal the gas and oil industries are partnering with sustainable companies and are trying to diminish greenhouse gases in traditional ways.
