Kocoatrait, the only Indian brand to manufacture single-origin, organic, and vegan chocolate, has won the Maker Mela Award in the Food Category.
Maker Mela is an initiative by Riidle of Somaiya Vidyavihar, a university in Mumbai. It is a platform to showcase any “Maker’s” innovation, celebrating Art, Craft, Engineering, Science, and DIYs in the fields of IT, Agriculture, and Food. Creators from all over India brought 200+ unique ideas to be shown to the world in the 7th edition of this event held virtually from January 21 to 23, 2022.
Under the patronage of Startup India, Skill India, NYCS and more, Asia’s largest annual gathering for innovators hosted an Award Show in its Closing Ceremony on January 23. Kocoatrait won an award for its zero-waste, sustainable dark chocolates. The brand presented a video on the making of the chocolates, starting from the basics of harvesting a ripe cacao bean to collection and fermentation of the pulp by hand to finally roasting the beans in an energy-efficient method. The chocolate is made in small batches with maximum human involvement, available in a wide variety of flavours, sugars, and cacao compositions.
The event also saw many environment-conscious Makers like the creators of Kisangas-Decentralised Biogas, Xaper sorting and composting machine, Wricks bricks made of recycled materials that are dampproof, EcoTrapInXtra Waterless Urinal and a plethora of other innovations. Due to no rigid rules on the age group that can participate, students also participated, increasing India’s innovative strength.
The Maker Mela has proven to be beneficial to all the individuals who won in different categories through the financial support as well as the exposure to each other.Read Also: Fiona Burrage: Scents of a place
