Soil Association joins Amazon Climate Pledge

Organic certification body Soil Association Certification has joined Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly initiative.

The tech giant’s initiative, launched in October 2020, aims to make it easier for shoppers looking for sustainable products to find them on its platform and know they’ve been independently audited and certified. SAC’s involvement means that its licensees will be able to trade on Amazon with the Climate Pledge Friendly badge “and benefit from access to millions of shoppers seeking certified sustainable products,” it said.

Amazon’s initiative provides shoppers with a greater choice of organic food and drinks with special search capabilities to enable them to find brands that meet the Climate Promise Friendly criteria, “helping further grow organic online sales,” she added.

The program started in the United States and has now been expanded to the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Soil Association Certification Development Director Clare McDermott said, “We are delighted to partner with Amazon’s Climate-Friendly scheme to give our licensees access to millions of new customers seeking eco-friendly organic products.  “Online is the main channel for organics and has grown significantly during the pandemic with one in four organic products now sold online in the UK and this will continue to grow. ” We continue to see a huge increase in demand for organic products and growing recognition among consumers that organic is a healthy choice for people, nature, and the planet.

Amazon’s Director of Sustainability in Europe, Zak Watts, added: “We are delighted to be expanding our Climate Pledge Friendly program to over 100,000 products in Europe with new sustainability certifications such as the Soil Association Certification.

Soil Association certification as part of the Climate Pledge Friendly will help consumers find products that are not only good for them but also good for the environment. By buying organic produce, with every pound you spend, you are judging the best products for us, for nature, and for the planet. It’s great that together we put him at the forefront of consumers’ minds.”
