Atul and Divya Mehta: The sole story

It all started when Atul Mehta witnessed his father playing squash while in pain and discomfort. His father is an athlete, and he struggled a long time to find the right footwear. This is when Atul and his wife Divya made the decision to take matters into their own hands and design a solution that suited their needs. After thorough research and development, Solecraft was born.

Solecraft is a homegrown sustainable footwear brand that offers shoes that are both comfortable and stylish.

The key lies in the sole

Solecraft recently launched the first-ever sweat-resistant charcoal shoes. These shoes are environmentally friendly as the brand uses only natural materials in their manufacturing. This item was created in India using premium Australian Merino wool, Japanese bamboo charcoal, and oil derived from recycled coffee grounds that was designed in “Milan.”

“We chose the name Solecraft because our objective is to create shoes that are both comfortable and fashionable while also being environmentally friendly. Sole = shoes, and craft = making shoes. Our tagline is “Creating for souls.” We hope to make shoes for everyone, regardless of gender or age,” says Divya talking about their name choice.

Shoes from Solecraft are stylish, incredibly comfortable, and made from the best natural materials available. Atul Mehta continues, “We are the first startup in the world to use charcoal in shoes, which are best for absorbing perspiration.”

Wool charcoal runners, wool charcoal joggers, wool charcoal loafers, and bamboo grass loafers are among the items Solecraft is offering. Because they are washable, these shoes come in a variety of vibrant colours and can easily be added to the wardrobe.

The outsoles of Solecraft shoes have been approved by “SATRA,” the leading technical organisation for footwear accreditation. Moreover, the brand’s goods Wool joggers and runners are suitable for all seasons and can be worn for a variety of daily activities, including running, working out, hiking, going to the office, and casual wear that you can wear all day.

Furthermore, because of the superior natural fabric, these are odour-resistant and can be worn without socks.

Shoes and sustainability

Solecraft understands its corporate social responsibility very well. With these environmentally friendly shoes, they also vowed to support society.

“With every product that we sell, we give 1 pair of recycled denim footwear to homeless people, and till now we have provided 3000 such pairs to the ones in need,” Divya says.

Moreover, Solecraft shoes are gender-neutral, both men and women find them appealing. Buying shoes from Solecraft is like giving back to nature because everything about them is eco-friendly, even the packaging, which is made of 90% post-consumer recycled cardboard and functions as a combined shoebox, shopping bag, and mailer.

The best foot forward

However, coming this far wasn’t easy for the duo. With no prior experience in the footwear sector, it was a struggle in the initial days. Atul began researching shoe manufacturing and was astonished to learn that the majority of shoes were created with petroleum-based and man-made synthetic fibres, which are harmful to the environment.

Atul explains, “I chose to visit various shoe manufacturing centres throughout India to study how shoes are created and to convey my concerns about the shoes, such as how I wanted to make shoes that are not only excellent for our feet’s health but also help to conserve our environment.”

Solecraft now intends to revolutionise the footwear sector by offering premium charcoal shoes that are sweat-resistant. In the upcoming years, the brands also intend to diversify, enter foreign markets, and dominate the sustainable footwear sector.
