Chirag and Aditi Gupta: Protein nutrition

Chirag & Aditi Gupta are individuals who are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle but for a long time they weren’t able to find high quality, traceable and delicious Vegan protein in India. Chirag, who is lactose intolerant, was searching for a protein that was healthy, tasty, and easy on the stomach when he discovered how impressively effective vegan protein was for his diet and body. However, he then had to deal with erratic markets, inconsistent availability, pretty mediocre quality, and high costs. He and Aditi were motivated to come up with a better solution in true entrepreneurial fashion.

Origin protein

So instead of finding it, they decided to make their own and after more than a year of vigorous trials and testing, they zeroed in on the perfect formulation which is clean and 100% natural, giving birth to Origin Nutrition.

“Happiness is our daily guide and reminder. Our products reflect our purpose which is to create great-tasting, plant-based superfoods that are crafted consciously for you, and the environment,” says Chirag talking about the inspiration behind creating the brand.

The brand presently has 5 flavours of Vegan protein in 2 sizes. A larger pouch for regular users and a smaller 7 servings jar for first time buyers. The brand also caters to first time buyers with their trial pack which consists of a single serving sachet of each of our 4 flavours.

“We have newly launched our natural plant based Biotin made from Sesbania Agati with 7 superfoods to support healthy hair, skin & nails,” Co-founder and expert food formulator at Origin Nutrition, Aditi shares.

She continues, “We source our raw materials from reputed suppliers based all around the world. Our key ingredients which are pea protein & pumpkin seed protein are sourced from Europe.”

The brand manufactures all these products in their own manufacturing plant (ISO & GMP certified) to ensure maintenance of the highest quality standards.

Origin adheres to the ‘Clean Please’ principle from beginning to end, making certain that its final goods meet the highest safety and quality standards while also being all-natural and efficient. The product lines also adhere to transparent supply chain policies that guarantee traceability from crop to consumer.

The production of Origin’s pea protein complies with an environmental management system that has received ISO 14001 certification. The main idea is to reduce the environmental impact of the pea protein manufacturing process. Especially in terms of energy consumption, climate impact, water consumption, raw materials consumption, wastewater treatment, noise, dust, waste, agricultural practice or transport.

Overcoming challenges

Being lactose intolerant and developing the appropriate vegan protein wasn’t a simple process. In Chirag’s words, “Sourcing the right ingredients was a big challenge in the beginning. We wanted to make sure that our protein was 100% traceable and it was critical to source from a reputable brand. To overcome this, we entered into a contract with our European supplier and we were able to meet all the projections.”

Aditi adds, “We also wanted our protein powders to be 100% natural and it was a huge challenge to source natural ingredients in India. Our hard work and perseverance paid off and helped us become one of the only protein companies in India to use only natural ingredients.”

Furthermore, the brand’s manufacturing facility in Chennai is an all-women unit by choice and circumstance, a key cause that is especially dear to the founders. Aditi and Chirag were resolved to make a positive difference in the community after learning about the significant employment obstacles that many women in the nation experience.

This coming year is extremely exciting for the brand as they have plans of launching a large number of new revolutionary products. With the vision and goal of providing every member of a family with the protein they need, from specialised goods for children to carefully curated protein for the senior citizens.
