Ved Van: Delhi’s new green lung

The Delhi NCR region usually stays in news for high pollution levels and its consequences on people and environment. Burning eyes, breathing problems and schools shutting down due to pollution (unlike in any other part of the country) are common for people living here. However, humans find unique ways to fight the status quo and try to create something that pleases all. One such step as a pleasant change to the existing scenario has been witnessed in Noida with the coming up of a vedic themed park – Ved Van.

Ved Van is located in Noida Sector 78 and adds a dash of green aesthetically for the surrounding residential complexes. Its construction started in 2021 and was built on a budget of INR 27 crore over a dumping ground. The landfill has been changed into its current beauty through soil compaction and preparation. The project was led by a special duty officer of Noida authority, Vandana Srivastava. According to her, the place was once a garbage dump and now a splendid destination demonstrating cultural richness, history, nature, and spirituality at one place.

Ved Van is dedicated to the teachings from old scriptures (4 Vedas) and to the 7 popular sages of India like Kashyap, Bharadwaj, Gautam, Atri, Vashishtha, Vishwamitra and Agastya. The park is divided into seven parts based on their names. In each part different aspects of our heritage is displayed through enormous sculptures depicting the scriptures, values and verses from four vedas.

The park displays a collection of over 50,000 plants chosen from Vedic literature. Ved Van is a unique meeting point where knowledge from ancient times is amalgamating with the technology of current times through interesting laser shows for guests. It also has a solar powered amphitheatre, outdoor gym and various eco-friendly amenities, making it a place which is educational, entertaining and relaxing at the same time.

As the human race is running towards an unsatiable thirst of urbanisation where the concrete advances are eating up all the valuable greens, this new progress is like a whiff of fresh air that residents of Delhi-NCR were forgetting and are now awestruck about.

The industrial revolution of 1850 started a never-ending run towards urbanisation and development. It gave us benefits at the cost of our environment and its balance. This initiative where a dumping is developed with the goals of ecology and sustainability by the U.P. Govt is not only commendable, but also an inspiration for all other states to think about newer ways of creating spaces that would lead to neutralising our carbon footprint and propose respect for natural resources, encouraging ecological balance and sustainability.
