Fibres made from food crop waste?

Circular Systems is a materials science company focused on creating a net positive impact on our environment, society, and economy through innovation. The company’s circular plus regenerative technologies provide systemic solutions for transforming food crop waste into valuable fibre, yarn and fabrics for the fashion industry.

Food Crop Waste

Waste is a huge problem

Waste is a huge problem. Crop residues are abundant, far too much to compost effectively. This waste is left to rot or burned, creating methane pollution, crop disease, and air pollution that contributes to more than 250,000 deaths per year.

  • 270 million tons of Banana waste alone is left to rot annually.
  • 32 million acres of rice straw are burned in India every year.
  • Additionally over 1.5 million acres of oilseed flax and oilseed hemp residues are burned in North America alone.

FireCircular Systems looks at these crop residues as valuable resources, rather than waste – turning problem into solution by converting waste into high-value resources for the fashion industry. With its textile waste to fibre platform (Texloop), and the food-crop-waste to BioFibre innovation (Agraloop), Circular Systems provides scalable solutions for the circular economy derived from two very abundant waste streams. Recycled fibre from Texloop and Agraloop BioFibre, can go into conventional yarn spinning systems to make high-value fashion products. And with its patent-pending hybrid yarn spinning technology Orbital, the company creates high-performance, natural-fibre-rich materials with Texloop recycled fibre, Agraloop BioFibre, and other organic and recycled fibres.

These six crops alone offer more than 250M tons of  fibre per year! = 2.5x the current global fibre demand

  • Oilseed Hemp
  • Cane Bagasse
  • Rice Straw
  • Pineapple Leaves
  • Banana Tree
  • Oilseed Flax.

The founding team has a combined experience of over 100 years in fibre, yarn, textiles, and fashion manufacture. Together with its passionate global team, the company is taking fashion beyond the goal of zero-waste and creating beneficial and regenerative impacts for the people, planet, and industry.

Agraloop BioFibre

Agraloop is about transforming food crop waste into scalable high-value natural fiber fashion products. Agraloop transforms low-value agricultural waste, into high-value new natural fibre called Agraloop BioFibre. With its patent-pending process, Agraloop processes a range of inputs, including oilseed hemp, oilseed flax, wheat, rice, corn, pineapple leaves, and banana trunks, and more – all to create natural BioFibre applied to yarn and textiles for the fashion industry.

Additionally, the Agraloop produces a range of co-products, including bio-energy to power the mill and local community and organic soil amendments to go back to the farm to support the fertility cycle. The Agraloop is also a preferred solution for non-wood paper & packaging, bio-composites, and building materials.

BioFibre Fashion Products

Agraloop made its debut at the 2019  Global Change Awards, in an elegant  hemp BioFibre/silk gown designed by &Other Stories, and worn by former Vogue India editor turned sustainable fashion thought leader Bandana Tewari.

Textiles

BioFibre Staple Fibre

Agraloop BioFibre is cottonised fibre made to run in existing open-end and ring spinning systems. NOT another viscose product, Agraloop BioFibre, is highly refined 100% natural fibre made from oilseed and nutraceutical hemp residues. Agraloop BioFibre retains all the embedded energy and the aesthetic of the original bast fibre performance qualities. BioFibre can also go into the company’s patent-pending Orbital yarn spinning technology.

BioFibre Yarn

The company blends its cottonised oilseed hemp BioFibre with other natural fibres, including; Texloop RCOT (Recycled Cotton), organic cotton, and TENCEL Lyocell. Product applications include knit and woven textiles for clothing, footwear, accessories, and durable home goods.

Biofibre Fabric

BioFibre Fabric

Agraloop Hemp BioFibre produces high-quality knit and woven fabrics for clothing and accessories. With inherent natural fibre performance properties, Agraloop BioFibre fabric applications range from sports performance, to elegant luxury materials, to durable heavy-weight denim and canvas wovens.

License Agraloop Technology

The company’s mission to kick off a bio-industrial economy and regenerate our habitat can only be achieved at a significant scale through global collaboration. The Agraloop BioRefinery is modular, low-CAPEX, and designed to be deployed globally to serve local communities and industries. In addition to providing BioFibre for the fashion industry, Agraloop can produce excess bio-chemistry, organic fertiliser, and fibre for non-wood paper & packaging, bio-composites, and building materials.

Circular Systems welcomes international brands, manufacturers, farmers, NGOs, and other interested collaborators to inquire and learn more about how they can be a part of the solution.
