amã Stays & Trails Arabidacool Bungalow, Chikmagalur: A slice of history

Built in 1914, the four bedroom Arabidacool Bungalow is amã Stays & Trails’ finest and most historical bungalow in the Mylemoney Coffee Estate of Chikmagalur. Baba Budan brought seven beans of coffee from the Port of Mocha in Yemen to Chikmagalur in India & that’s where the origin of coffee began in India. The Arabidacool Bungalow is nestled at a height of 4000 ft above sea level & takes you one step closer to the sky. There is a slice of history in every corner of the Bungalow, from it’s elegant upholstery to the red brick shade.

Home to the legendary and extremely rare “Kent” coffee,  Mylemoney estate is nestled near Mullayangiri – the highest peak in the region with lush green forests, home to rich wildlife and a variety of deer. Thomas Cannon a renowned English planter discovered this ideal location in the early 19th century & thus came the association of coffee & the Arabidacool Bungalow.

Accommodation at the Arabidacool Bungalow is a luxurious experience. Only 12 guests can be accommodated. Guests have a choice between the Heritage Rooms and Luxury rooms, all of which are equipped with en suite facilities. The bungalow has a common living area as well as a dining room and provides a splendid view of the scenic plantations of Chikmagalur.

The kitchen is personally supervised by Tata Planters’ wives and all cuisines including Jain is available. . While we do not have a Swimming pool, Spa or Gym at the Bungalow, we are happy to inform guests that they may avail of these facilities at the nearest Group hotel, the Gateway Chikmagalur – IHCL SeleQtions. amã Stays & Trails’ is a division of IHCL.

Things to do

Trekking up Mullayanagiri
Stretching across the northern part of Chikmagalur are the lofty peaks of Baba Budangiri, an ideal place for all nature lovers to explore their adventurous side. Trekking up Mullayanagiri or any one of the other peaks is as arduous as it is rewarding. Gazing up at the night stars from here is a sure-way to feel transported into paradise!

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary visit

A place to explore your wild side, the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is the perfect place to start your vacation at Chikmagalur. Spread across an area of over 490 square kilometers, the reserve is a dense evergreen forest. You’d be able to spot many different types of species of animals such as panthers, sambar deer, elephants and wild boars and if you’re lucky, a majestic tiger might even cross your path!

Belur and Halebeedu temples visit

Chikmagalur is home to ancient Hindu architecture and the historic temples at Belur and Halebeedu from the spectacular Hoysala Empire are a must-visit. These intricately crafted places of worship with beautiful carvings give the visitor a taste of the fine craftsmanship that was prevalent in the bygone era.
